Overflow destruction

Well, the second ghetto overflow on the 150 broke this evening dousing a power strip and one of my light timers with salt water and tripping the GFCI breaker.

I am now going to have to replace those items as well as building proper overflows for the tank. I have all the acrylic that I need, but this is a much more ambitious project in acrylic than I have ever undertaken before and I kind of have no choice in the matter. When the supports for the ghetto plastic overflow broke, the weight torqued the bulkheads and now I have leaks that I can not fix. I have it propped up and functional now so that I will not loose anything in the tank, but I am praying that the leak does not overflow the 2.5Gal tank that I have under it to catch it.

If I can, I will post the pictures of the construction (assuming it goes well) and you can make overflow boxes of your own.

This also offers me the opportunity to add durso standpipes to the overflow boxes and quiet the operation of the overflows on the 150. The ghetto plastic overflows were too shallow to allow the use of dursos.

I hate that this was forced instead of planned, but there you have it. Getting along with ghetto equipment costs in the long run and I am now going to pay that price. Fortunately for me I have had some benefactors in the past that have ‘gifted’ me with most of the materials that I need. Now I just have to put in the brainpower and the time to make it right. It’ll take me all weekend to get it right and tight.

I guess this is what the blog is for. To document the problems and sucesses that I have so that you all can either emulate or improve on what I have done.
