Suspended particles

When I blow off my rocks in my 20g, I get a ton of suspended particles floating around. Would a power filter help out with this problem? I run a CPR backpack skimmer, but it doesn't get a lot of the particles. I was thinking of maybe going with the millennium 2000 or 3000 for the tank or perhaps an Aquaclear. Any thoughts on whether this will help or not?? Also any thoughts on the different hob filter brands?
