Reverse Photoperiod

What is reverse photoperiod?
When talking reef aquariums, reverse photoperiod is when the lights over the refugium and the lights over the main tank are “on” opposite each other.

Why use a reverse photoperiod?
The lack of carbon dioxide consumption can cause the pH level to fall because the algaes are receiving no light for photosynthesis. Reverse photoperiod will help stabilize the pH level of the reef aquarium setup even when the main tank lights are “off”.

My solution for reverse photoperiod
I’ve been turning refugium lights on manually so I’ve been wanting to setup my lighting for a reverse photoperiod. My electrical plugs and refugium/sump are in the stand beneath the main tank and the thought of stuffing a second bulky timer in my tank stand wasn’t an option, real estate there is scarce.
